No, I’m not going to talk about the Sound of Music. Though it did introduce a number of astoundingly famous songs (Do-a-deer……) A spoonful of sugar, anyone? I thought not. It clashes violently with modern day medical beliefs, really. A spoon of sugar with every bit of medicine? My god, how I pity the hypochondriac pill poppers then.

Ah. Now I remember what I wanted to write down here (aside from the oft repeated statements about not having posted yesterday)

Happy Birthday, Malaysia (Well that’s actually on September 16) Alrighty then, Happy Independence; Selamat Hari Merdeka!

I Should Study, and So Should You!

Posted in Categorised on August 29, 2006 by riezawa

That’s right, you heard it here first: “I Should Study, and So Should You! – Musings of a Chronic Un-Studyer” Out in stores 31st April 20007!

Actually I think I should write that book. Or with another subtitle: “How to Get Your Lazy Arse Motivated Enough to Crack Open the Bloody 1000 page Calculus Textbook”. No, really. At least look at the formulas list, those are enlightening.

Whoopsie

I didn’t write yesterday. I thought I did. Really. Okay, maybe I wasn’t very sure and didn’t bother to check, so what? Um.

Usual events: I don’t know what to write here. So… enjoy my correct spelling and appropriate grammar. ZOMGLOLWTFBBQ. Z.
PLUG ~ Geriatric1927’s works at Youtube, which I actually just watched yesterday, really, are actually really good. Go watch, unless you’ve done it already, of course.

Um, ah…

The site’s a bit slow, innit? But only at the admin-ish sections, specially at the dashboard… It always seems perfectly good when I view it normally. Ah well. Life.

Not writing about personal stuff narrows down what I have to say considerably, consequently the dark shadow of writer’s block is hovering figuratively over my head, preparing, preparing, preparing…

Crash.

But seriously. That’s one heavy block ;P Have a nice day anyhow.

Bleh

Posted in Categorised on August 24, 2006 by riezawa

Thus shall the post conclude.

Okay, that’s a bit too irresponsible. I take that back. Instead I’ll start up a discourse on why blogging is a bit sad (not bloggers, mind you. Blogging.) I make the assumption that toes will be trod upon, so if you don’t like what you’re seeing, might as well close this window/tab now (btw, here’s a Firefox tip. Clicking the middle mousewheel button at the tab itself closes that tab *gasp*)

Now I will begin. Since I’m blogging too, whatever I say will include me as well. It’s a cry, you see, a cry for attention. In a spate of laziness, have a look at what I’ve written previously here, to make things easier for me and you (me, mostly). A blog is a record, similar in principle to the written/printed word. Its permanance is assumed most of the time, and its accesibility, or potential of accessibility is massive. In my case, I (naively?) assume someone someday will come along and have a look, and maybe like what he/she/it sees. That unknown entity is who/what I write for, usually, apart from personal-satisfaction-ish reasons.

Anyhow, to the point. Regular people blog for regular people. The point is to be read, and being read by other people, might it not prove/reaffirm your existance? It hurts to be ignored, it is a human fear. And humans naturally avoid pain (with some odd exceptions; i.e. S&M buffs and the like =P) Posting on a blog gives the possibility of attention, as I said, and people thrive on attention. It says, ” You are alive, because I know you are; I am alive, because I know that you know I am alive.”

Anyone who disagrees is welcome to comment. I like my existance affirmed. :)

Damn Obligation

Well. As the title says. I thought I ought to at least write something in here today, since a blog is (according to TheFreeDictionary.com’s Thesaurus section; the proper Dictionary itself gives a pretty crappy meaning) “a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies”. And a diary is meant to be written pretty much daily.

But then I don’t intend to make this a diary anyway. As mentioned earlier, it’s kinda sad to post stuff purely for people to look at, laugh/cry/cry harder cos the spelling was so bad/whatever and promptly forget till the next installment comes up. But thus far wordpress has proven itself a handy text editor so… um. Stuff.

To the no ones who read this stuff, think before you blog. Or begin to blog. Obligations are depressingly deadly. They hit out from those pitch black depths of your psyche that you prefer to think (‘wish’ would be more apt) everyone has except you. And damn, they hit hard.

Further exposition on the point of dreams and reality

Posted in Categorised on August 21, 2006 by riezawa

Argument 1

Clear logical view for the matrix type view

1) In a dream you don’t know ‘reality’

2) In ‘reality’ you don’t know ‘Reality’ (referring to the Matrix’s Zion or whatever)

Rephrased:

In D, r is not  known

In r, R is not known

Therefore is there any real difference between D and r (aka dream and reality)?

 Argument 2

In the idealist view, the known ‘reality’ can only consist with certainty of the mind. Dreams are ‘part’ of the mind, in all probabilty. Experiences in a dream are not discernably different from experiences in reality (you have your senses, you have -usually- memory of dreams, etc) So there should be no proper distinction between the two?

Jingle jingle. Philosophy essay.

**Excuse the writing style, it’s a bit, um, accusatory? Ignore the freakiness, or just ignore the text entirely. This is just notes/brainstormy idea-ish thingys
To define dream – there are two ways of interpreting the word, one as a ‘wish’ sense, as in “Bill dreams of becoming an astronaut” as opposed to the go-to-sleep dream, such as “I had a bad dream yesterday night, a potato was chasing me down the mall dressed with a skillet.”

To define reality – What is real, based on the view of the realist: reality refers to everything and anything existing in the world in any time… or perhaps more like in a specific time, ie: the present? And the idealist might claim there is no reality aside from one’s mind – the “I think therefore I am” idea, as Descartes famously said.

Using these definitions (the second one for dream/ first for reality, for that would be more philosophical) what differences would there be between dream and reality?

1) While you are awake (define awake, hey?) you ‘know’ (how do you know?) that you were dreaming… Whilst you dream you have no notion of ‘reality’, do you? Assume no. Might want to refer to the Matrix? GiTS? Anything usable from those? (Yes, expounded in no 2.)
Psychology – supposedly there are methods in reality to be ‘aware’ of and ‘control’ your dream, yet it’s quite apparant that there’s no way when you are dreaming to become aware of reality and make a change in it, yes?

2) With fact 1 established (what the heck is fact 1 anyway) –> Um, you don’t know of the existence of reality while in a dream. If the Matrix-proposed theory that there’s another ‘world’ out there is correct, then we do not know of that world, yes? Then how do you know that the current reality is not a dream? Or specifically, what difference is there between reality being a dream/dream being reality?

And if, like the Matrix, you can ‘escape’ reality to go into the other ‘Absolute Reality’: How do you know that this ‘Absolute Reality’ is different from Reality, or Dream?

3) Possible also to include the idealist interpretation of reality? Know nothing exists aside from the mind. Dreams prove existance of mind, but not existance of reality, therefore negligible differences between the two?

4) Pragmatic view, you get your arm cut off in a dream, but that won’t happen in reality will it? You die in reality, you probably will never dream again. So… reality = source of dreams but dreams =/= source of reality. And that’s that.

I have no idea what to post here at all. I assume most readers would like to hear something interesting. But then there aren’t any readers here anyway. So I suppose I’ll post a story. Yes, a story, that’s bound to be interesting. Or maybe not.
This is completely fictional, by the way.

Now to think of a story. Um.

Once upon a time. Life began on Earth, and evolution, of all things. Stuff happened. Rodents stood on two feet, and called names at each other. They named themselves Man. Time passed, as it always does. Many evolved rodents-on-two-legs died, naturally, and unnaturally. Mostly unnaturally, for these rodents enjoyed murder as if a sport. It was sport, for a time. But that stopped. In most places, anyway.

This tale is about a rodent by the name of Mouse. Mouse had a family, you see, a young rodent wife and three little rodent children. It had a job as well, a good job, which it loved. One day, as Mouse commuted on its way to the rat race (har har bad pun.) it saw, along the road, another rodent standing by a tree on its two evolved feet. Mouse stopped, curious as a cat (another bad pun. har de har har.) and asked the rodent, “What are you doing by the tree?” or something to that effect. The rodent – it was a white one, with lovely eyes – turned its gaze to Mouse.

Who are you? What are you doing here?

Answer me this, and get yourself a cookie.
